13 Ways To Celebrate Fall
Hello, Thursday Thirteeners! While you’re here, be sure to check out my contest that just started. At the end of this month, I’ll be giving away a box of my “favorite things.” I’d love to have you play along.
Some cooler weather blew into my area this week, breaking a long heat wave. It’s got me thinking about my favorite season, fall! Let’s explore some ways to celebrate this beautiful season.

Go for a walk. Slow the pace down and savor the cool breeze, the crisp air, and the subtle changes that are beginning to take place.
Let your lawn celebrate. Consider planting some mums or other seasonal plants to herald the changing season.
Treat yourself before the tricksters. The stores are hauling out Halloween goodies. Buy yourself a bag of your favorite treat and enjoy a little “fun size” nugget now and then.
Visit a pumpkin patch. I love seeing that field of orange under a crisp blue sky.
Carve a Jack-O-Lantern. Nothing keeps you young quite like scooping out a big ol’ handful of pumpkin guts!
Enjoy some apple cider. Get yourself a warm mug of cider and take it outside on a cool night.
Take a drive to nowhere in particular. When the leaves start changing, spend an afternoon driving through them for its own sake.
Crunch through some leaves. Even kick them if you want to. Go ahead. Nobody’s looking.
Jump into that pile of leaves you rake. Remember how fun it was as a kid? It still is!
Enjoy the dwindling daylight. We’re getting less and less each day, so try to get out an enjoy those cool early evenings as much as possible.
Send someone a card. Everybody gets Christmas cards. Surprise someone with a fun Halloween card.
Try some fall cleaning. Remember all that spring cleaning that you didn’t finish? Take advantage of the cooler weather and get some work done.
Open up those windows! Give the air conditioner a rest and air out your home. Let the crisp breezes refresh your living space.

Nice list, Bob! Minus the bit about the treats (for obvious reasons), you had me all the way down to “Try some fall cleaning”. I’d like to substitute “Be lazy and watch scary movies” of “Be lazy and read scary books”. Anything with the word “lazy” will do, actually.
And here’s one I haven’t tried, but I’d like to: Make pumpkin soup served in its own shell. It kinda fits with the “lazy” theme, too, since you don’t have to wash a serving bowl!
Great TT, I’m not a huge fan of fall, but you made me remember there are good points to it too.
Thanks, btw my TT is up too.
hi! i am new this week to thursday 13. i love your list. my mom (who is in her late 50s) and her friend from high school still send each other halloween cards. it’s a tradition that’s last for 40 years!
Mmm…cool evening breezes and crunchy, red leaves. I look forward to the fall. Great list of ideas!
Nice list! After the blazing summer we’ve had here in NC, anything cooler than 90 degrees feels like Fall!
Going out to buy some Halloween cards as we speak…
Happy TT! Here’s mine: http://artventuring.blogspot.com/2007/09/thursday-thirteen-4-body-part-cliches.html
I love fall! Great TT idea!
Terrific list! I’d add “go to a football game” to it.
I’m so glad Fall is just about here…. the temperature has finally moved out of the 100s and 90s. Yay!
My TT is up, too.

Happy fall. I’m sewing my kids’ Halloween costumes. Happy TT.
Nice list. I love fall, especially October. I can’t wait till it gets here.
Happy TT!
Excellent ideas!!! I too love Fall …
I love this time of year! Last October, my brother bought bags and bags of candy for the trick-or-treaters, only to discover that no one ever comes down our street because there are only four houses. I ate so much candy that month! It was yummy, though!
Great list! I love that picture of your daughter in the pumpkin patch.
Oh I love all your suggestions here! I have been in a bit of a slump lately…I am going to print this list off and check off a few…of course the fall leaves are out of the question..it’s still 96 degrees here and all the leaves are still on the trees
I am a pumpkin patch nut myself!! I don’t know if I can squeeze another year out of my daughter…she put up a fuss last year about taking her picture in one…I guess she is now too cool for such fun!
Great list. Isn’t fall just a wonderful season? I am so happy that summer is finally over (even though we didn’T really have all that much of a proper summer this year). I’m looking forward to Halloween as well. I like the idea of sending out Halloween cards.
Thanks for your visit to my blog. You’re right about the search for a new theme being tiring. I hope next time I need one I will be able to make it myself.
Love the ideas! Just the thought of scooping out pumpkin guts made me laugh! I keep meaning to send Halloween cards, but always forget, how about sending an email card instead?
Of course having those cool breezes through the open windows is bliss. Then you see the leaves falling and have to crunch-crunch-crunch through them. Thanks for a fun post. :0)
We don’t have much of a fall in Florida but you reminded me of the English autumns I miss.
